Collagen and Fillers

Your skin is supported by a protein like substance called collagen, which acts like a cushion for the outer layers of your skin. Over the years the cumulative effects of sun exposure and aging actually damage this protein, reducing its production. By the age of 30 both women and men begin to lose collagen at a rate of about 1% per year. As this cushion deteriorates your skin starts to form wrinkles, lines and creases. The result is that we start to look old and tired.

Smooth, wrinkle free skin is usually associated with an energetic young appearance. With the proper use of injectable collagen and other popular FDA approved fillers it is possible to soften or erase select wrinkles, deep frown lines and creases giving you a more youthful, vibrant appearance. Collagen is also used very effectively to provide lip enhancement, improving the symmetry or fullness to thin lips.

Before treating an area, certain collagen products require two skin tests to ensure no allergic response. A month later, they are injected using a fine needle in the area to be improved. Some other fillers such as hyaluronic acids or calcium hydroxyapatite do not require skin tests and they tend to last longer than collagen. As with any injection there might be slight discomfort at the time of injection, but patients are usually pain free when they leave the office and are able to resume their busy schedule. Results will usually last from 3-4 months for collagen and 6-9 months for hyaluronic acids.

If you're looking for a non-invasive way to regain your natural, youthful appearance consider collagen or other injectable fillers.
